Student ruins job chances by saying “Ambulance Driver” in job interview

Jake Fratelli walked into his interview with Walsh Brothers EMS confident he would get the job. But only half way through the time allotted he was asked to leave. The reason his interview was cut short, the young man kept saying Ambulance Driver.

Brothers Mike and Brandon run Walsh Bothers EMS. The company has a close working relationship with Perkins Technical College. Few people ever apply to work for Walsh Brothers, jobs only come to kids who get referred to the company by their instructors.

Newly minted EMT-B Fratelli got one of the coveted referrals. The EMT will be starting classes to get his Paramedic soon. The job at Walsh Brothers EMS gets him both experience and helps pay to finish his schooling.

Brandon had this to say. “The interview is just a formality. We want to get a feel for the personality of kids so we know what crew to assign them to. An instructor referral gets the job. I guess fate or something has ways of messing with the sure thing.”

Examples of how Jake answered questions included…

In response to why he wants to work for Walsh Brothers he said, “I have wanted to be an Ambulance Driver all my life and working …”

When asked to explain his strengths Fratelli said, “I am both book smart and street smart, ask anyone at Ambulance Driver College…”

Finally when asked about his future goal in the career path Jake dropped this answer, “I know I want to move to a big city, maybe like Chicago or Denver and be an Ambulance Driver. Someday I think I could work my way up to a chief spot, being the Chief Ambulance Driver for a major city would be…”

Mike Walsh was the one to end the interview. “When he used that dam term for the fourth time I had enough. I told him we were done and then added how he was done. If he can’t respect this profession he has no right to ever work in it. I then showed him the door.”

The 21 year old is still bewildered by what happened. He was not willing to talk to CallTheCops on record. Off the record he commented how he knows he “aced that interview and can’t figure out why they [Walsh Brothers] will not tell him when his start date is.”
