Paramedic starts nursing school and discovers she does NOT know it all

Katie Brigid, a paramedic with AMR recently also started taking classes at a local nursing school. After her first few classes Katie made a startling revelation, she is not a actually a paragod, she does not know everything!

Katie said that during her first lecture she was thinking how much of a cakewalk this degree was going to be. Blood pressure numbers, SPO2 levels, even taking a pulse, all everyday things for a paramedic.

Then suddenly her classes started to talk about stuff like “informatics” and “patient navigation routes”. Katie was lost quickly. “We started talking about triage, but then the conversation changed to something that sounded like triage, but it was not triage.”

As a paramedic Katie only has to deal with a limited number of patients at any one tile.

Nurses she was finding out deal with multiple patients. These patients need to be tracked.

Her head already spinning from case management topics, Katie then found herself in Health Promotion. “That class is all about nutritional programs. The book has like three chapters dealing with issues of domestic violence.”

Katie says she does not even want to talk about her skills class. She was confident that her paramedic skills would transferable to nursing. She is quickly realizing that there are some similarities but yet very different.
