California to allow EMS to carry medical marijuana.

California legislation is in the process of passing a bill to allow individual municipalities and private ambulance companies, to carry and administer medical marijuana. If passed, city and county governments, along with private ambulance companies, will be able to write Standard Medical Operating Procedures to administer up to one medical marijuana smokable dose per fifty patient pounds. So the average person weighing two hundred pounds will receive a maximum of four doses. marijuana

All patients that receive this treatment must show a drivers license and a medical marijuana card to participate. This treatment must be administered by the paramedics while in their presence, preventing any abuse of operating procedures. These medications will be locked up in the ambulance and issued out just like any other medication used. Each crew will be responsible for any unused medication and should be locked up back in the station with the rest of the supplies.

This new medical procedure will also be the first of its kind allowing patients to be able to pay in cash. All crews will be equally responsible for any cash or credit receipts they receive.

Paramedic Tommy Marin,”I think it’s a good plan. We have had so many patients that have had severe headaches, arthritis, back pain and sever depression, that we were really treating the wrong way. Now with this new procedure we can have them up and heading to recovery or a fast food restaurant in no time. The fact that we can take cash for this is brilliant, quick and easy.”

Mary Angola a resident of Los Angeles, when told of the new bill has this to say about it,”uhhh what? So I just need to call 911 now?” She left the conversation to make a quick phone call.

Next on the docket for California’s government is to revise the Paramedic scope of practice to include issuing medical marijuana cards.
