FDNY Lt faces charges after rescuing child

Lt. Robert Whelan saved a child from a fire in Brooklyn on Nov. 25. Lt. Whelan is on an engine company not a truck company. According to FDNY tradition only truck companies are allowed to make a rescue not the hose carrying firefighters.

Engine-257Engine 257 and Engine 283 were on scene before Ladder 174 was able to arrive.

A source tells CallTheCops “An engine company’s job is to put water on the fire. This firefighter stopped putting water on the fire to effect this rescue. We call that dereliction of duty.”

Neighborhood residents all are applauding Lt Whelan for his heroic actions. They are hoping to see him get an award. Our source tells us, “No way no medals on this one. If an engine makes a rescue it hurts the feelings of the guys on the truck. We can’t have a moral killing issue like truckies with hurt feelings going on here. The bosses hands are tied… the Lt will be disciplined for this one…”

Calls and emails to FDNY brass and union officials have not been returned.

Editorial note…
we want to say kudos on a great save… read more about the real call here.
