Alderman Mike Hunsaker has proposed a city ordinance that cops all over the country outraged. Hunsaker wants to require officers in his city to be shot at first before they are allowed to discharge a firearm.
Last night the the Alderman presented his resolution to the city council. According to Hunsaker this policy change will save citizens lives and save the city money from lawsuits. “I trust that Chief Murtaugh has hired good quality officers. But I still fear that in our current society of militarized police forces one of his men might be a bit too quick to pull the trigger. If they have to get shot at first it will cause them to not shoot unarmed persons, or get them to use a TASER on someone who only has a knife.”
Chief Murtaugh was vehement this will get officers killed. The Aldermen countered saying “but we buy every officer a bullet proof vest. What is the point of these vests if they don’t stop bullets fired at the officers?”
Last night was only the initial reading of the proposed ordinance to change the local policy. Over the next two meetings the council will hold public hearings so community members can speak on the issue. After two public hearings the council will vote if they will adopt the ordinance or not.
When CallTheCops asked Chief Murtaugh for a comment all he was willing to say was “I am getting too old for this shit”.
