EMTs under fire for forged patient billing acceptance signatures

EMTs with the Confictus Ambulance service are coming under fire for falsifying the signatures of patients on billing acceptance forms. Forging a patient’s signature is something that often times gets EMTs into trouble. What makes this time different is that management is mad the EMTs suck at forgery.

EMS Billing

In an email obtained by CallTheCops the Chief Administrator for Confictus EMS goes off on his employees. By reading the message it is clear that these forged billing acceptance sheets are acceptable. He just wants to make sure the forgeries are better.

“In reviewing the billing acceptance signatures I noticed that way too many forms have signatures that look the same. From here on out a squiggly line with two or three circles in the middle will not be accepted. From here on out I want you to make a legitimate forgery or simply make a mark. If you look carefully at the sheet you will see that if a patient is unable to sign they can simply make a mark, such as an X. Then someone else, like some other EMT, signs as witness. I would think that any of you knuckle heads should be able to make different variations to the letter X so multiple sheets don’t all look the same. I would also suggest trying the use of different pens so each X has a different ink color and thickness. I think it also goes with out saying that you should rotate who will sign as the witnesses also.”

The email acknowledges the difficulty in getting a signature sometimes. Doctors and nurses in a hurry pushing the EMTs out of the room. Patients who are too distracted by all the sights of the ER to focus on taking a pen to sign a sheet. Dispatchers on the radio telling the crews to get back in the rig for their next call.

The email never mentions any EMTs by name as being responsible for this issue. It does however state that if obvious forgery is found again people will be disciplined.

None of the EMTs nor the management at Confictus EMS would grant us an interview.
