5.11 testing line of tactical formalwear

5.11 gear has become the official clothing of choice for many cops, firefighters, and Medics, both on and off duty. I know guys who joke the only thing they are missing is a 5.11 tuxedo. Turns out the 5.11 tuxedo may soon be a reality.

5.11 Tactical tuxedo

A 5.11 employee, Dan Harrelson, whose job title is “Tactical Tailor”, sat done with me for an exclusive interview. Harrelson is very excited about this new product line.

“Cop just love our products. Fire and EMS also seem to be getting more and more into it. But we keep getting complaints from administrators who need to be in a suit and tie. Even some detectives would write us that we needed to make something more formalwear looking for them.”

Harrelson explained that as a Tactical Tailor he considers it his duty to blend form and function into everything he designs. This new 5.11 formalwear line has been over three years in the making.

“We take our product lines seriously. I am not about to just copy the patterns of a Calvin Klein, but use Ripstop nylon and embroider the word ‘tactical’ onto the label then ship it out the door hoping the customers will fall in love. No I went and job shadowed some chiefs and detectives. I saw what they did everyday. Saw the equipment they carry, guns, handcuffs, extra magazines and even small digital cameras.”

The new product line will even yes include tuxedos. Many top administrators are required to attend black tie events so the tuxedos make sense.

“One police chief told me he just does not feel like an officer when in a suit. He has some of our prototype suits. He calls me up one day, tells me about sitting in a meeting at city hall. Everyone in the meeting was in a suit, as he sat there he for the first time as chief felt like he was still a cop. That is my goal. Able to blend in with other in formalwear but practical for a the demands of the job.”

Pricing and official release dates are not available at this time.
