Botched Lethal Injections leads to the return of the Guillotine

The so call “botched execution” in Oklahoma last week has once again raised the questions surrounding the Death Penalty here in the US. So lawmakers have decided to bring back the use of the Guillotine.

An example of a Guillotine

Currently Lethal Injection is the most used method of execution, followed by electrocution, gas chamber, hanging and lastly firing squad. In the last thirty years each of these execution systems have had incidents where death took longer than it should have.

Senator Joe Byrd put forward the bill to allow guillotine use. That bill was fast tracked and will be signed into law by the Governor. The senator is quoted as saying.

“Ropes break, shooters have bad aim, some people have bio-chemistry that reacts different to electricity or drugs. But there is one thing that is sure to kill a person fast and is 100% effective… cut off the head!”

Proponents of the bill agree that a dropping blade will swiftly disconnect a head from a body. That disconnection is guaranteed to be followed by an immediate death.

Even people who are apposed to the death penalty seem to agree that decapitation is hard to botch when using a machine.

According to Senator Byrd “We have military allies in other countries that use decapitations for capital crimes. If it is good enough for our allies it should be good enough for us. In addition with modern manufacturing processes and metallurgy we can make an extremely sharp blade that travels at an ultra high speed.”

The new law will allow persons currently awaiting execution to pick if they want to keep lethal injection or switch methods to the guillotine. But all new persons to death row will have to use the Guillotine.

The bidding process for design and construction of these Guillotines will be announced once the Governor signs the bill.
