Obama angers Police by wearing Thin Red Line pin for Police Week press conference

Yesterday, Monday May 12, 2014, marked the start of Police week 2014. To commemorate the kickoff of police week the president made some comments about police during his daily press briefing. Unfortunately he had on the wrong pin.

Thin red line

For the daily briefing the president wore a pin of black that had a thin red line across it. Police officer memorial and police solidarity emblems contain a blue line. Typically it is the fire service that uses the red line as their emblem.

The white house is blaming an intern for the error. According to a Mike Dieritch a spokesperson for the intern corps it was a simple mistake.

“The kid who picked out the President’s pin got a little mixed up. He saw that red line and was thinking about the light bar on a police car. Apparently he was pulled over recently and the red blinking light was engrained in his psyche.”

Our source tells us that the intern has been dismissed.

“The last thing we want to do us offend the our police community. While the mistake was minor, it goes to show the work ethic of that kid. Had he done some fact checking this embarrassment could have been avoided.”

Various police leaders are still pointing blame right at the White House. One police chief would only talk to us if we did not use her name.

“The president knew he would be making comments about police week. He saw the pin was red. The guy graduated from law school, he knows police are associated with blue. They are just using an intern as a scapegoat. It sickens me that once again the people in Washington show how little they care for us police.”

Mr, Obama did change pins before going to a ceremony in the East Room to recognize the TOP COPS award recipients. None of the 53 awardees were aware of the earlier mix up.

No official apology is being released. Spokesperson Dieritch assured CallTheCops the intern was not a scapegoat and the mistake was genuine.
