City examines private police department option

The City of Vilibus is looking into disbanding their police force and then brings in a private security contractor to protect the city. According to city officials this move will save the city money and provide a better police service to citizens.

Mayor Mike Gray said the idea came to him when he was reading about private military contractors doing security work for cargo ships.

“Almost every week I get a citizen who complains about the local police. I don’t know if the cops are out of control or not. Some of our citizens say so; the chief assures me our cops are in line with national averages. But ultimately I need to make my voting public happy.”

After multiple use of force incidents and an officer involved shooting protests against the Vilibus police have become a daily occurrence the last two months.

“Private police is the way to solve this issue” Mayor Gray told us. “A private police force will not have union protections. The bad apples will be fired and gone, no questions asked. Also they will need to do good police work. Pay will be incentive based. Solve crime, get a bonus, don’t solve crimes, then only earn your base wage.”

In addition to providing a better service by going with a private contractor the city will save money. City tax dollars will only pay a minimal operational budget to the company. Everything else will be raised via fines and forfeitures.

“Paying the salary and benefits for police officers was a major burden on this city. Not to mention the retirement package. With the private model the city will not worry about that.”

No word on if the new private company will hire on all the current policing staff. The current police chief did not return calls or emails for comment.
