4-alarm fire ruins awesome Madden NFL tournament at firehouse

Sunday night after witnessing the glorious last second win by the Green Bay packers, the guys at Engine 17 decided to have a marathon of playing Madden NFL. Crewmembers passed the hat to order Pizzas. Then sat down to what should have been great night of gameing, only to have it ruined by a major fire.

Just as the pizza delivery came they overheard Engine 15 get sent to an apartment fire.

“When we hear the tones we all tensed up. We had only been playing for a half-hour. No one had even opened the pizza boxes yet. So when they called for 15 to head to unknown alarm we all breathed a sigh of relief. Call like that at an apartment are always a cooking mishap and it was assigned to a different house.”

It took Engine 15 less than 3 minutes to arrive on scene. Almost immediately they put out the call for more resources. Flames and smoke were showing out of multiple apartments. Meaning the Madden tournament would be canceled when the tones dropped for Engine 17.

“I seriously only had like two bites of pizza when we got the call. How much does that suck. Think about it, hungry but only allowed a nibble of food, which makes you thirsty but no time for a drink.”

Crews battled the blaze for almost five hours. They were on scene for two more hours helping with overhaul.

“We got back to the house and did all the routine maintenance so we could be ready for the next call. Walked into the day room saw now cold pizza and the Xbox still on. But no one was in the mood anymore. Everyone headed to the bunk room and crashed out.”

No word on when or if the tournament will be rescheduled. At shift change the outbound crew seemed a tad demoralized. Rumor has it they might try something tonight at a Firefighter’s apartment. Keep an eye on our twitter feed for updates
