Wrist injuries on rise following the appearance of Firehouse Foxes on Facebook

Fire chiefs across the nation are reporting an increase in injuries at their firehouses. Wrist injuries in the last month have become something of an epidemic from LA to NYC. Now a culprit has been identified, a Facebook page called Firehouse Foxes.

A Firehouse Fox

Exactly one month ago today Firehouse Foxes burst onto Facebook. The page was started by a small group of firefighters, many of them female firefighters. The purpose of the page is simply to provide entertainment for public safety workers.

Initially the page posted many photos from calendars and selfies taken by the page admins. But quickly the page started to receive submissions from fans. Many of the images are tame, but plenty of people have submitted risqué images.

Scrolling down the page you will find a fair number of photos of ladies in low cut tops, swimwear, and sometimes underwear. A number of photos also have women basically naked but hands or objects strategically placed to comply with Facebook terms of service.

Chief Harold Doby explains what took place at his firehouse.

“Guy at our station know the IT department have blocking software that prevents access to many porn web sites. In addition city hall is always monitoring our web traffic. As such the guys don’t see much skin on duty time. So going on Firehouse Foxes is enough to put pressure in their fire hoses…if you know what I mean…”

Many other chiefs echo what Chief Doby said. Chief Abe Carver was a bit more graphic.

“I think the bathroom at our firehouse is now occupied twenty four hours a day. That is assuming we are not on a call. Guys grab their iPads and head off to the bathroom once someone else walks out. This is an old school firehouse with a common bunkroom, no individual sleeping cells here. So if the guys need a private space to rub one out, the bath room is the only option.”

Which is the underlying problem. All the self-gratification is causing wrists to be over worked. Then on calls these firefighters have to exert themselves and the over worked wrists are being injured.

No one was willing to go on the record with us to talk about the extent of these injuries or the recovery time. Fear of “the HIPAA police” was the copout answer given as to why no further details are being given.
