Call the Cops The 27th Most Trusted Site in Public Safety
The Pitco fire department this year was not called out for a single Thanksgiving Day fire. This is shocking because for the last four years the department has responded to some kind of turkey deep fryer emergency. In addition these calls have always ruined the meal the firehouse was making for themselves.

One firefighter told us this. “It was getting to be about 3pm and the guys were getting hungry. Someone said we should start cooking but then someone else said ‘No that will jinx us, just wait a bit more’. By 5pm people were getting a little pissed off. When 8pm rolled around the Capt gave a direct order to start cooking our Thanksgiving meal. Capt said the normal people are done eating by now, so a cooking emergency would have come in. If you ask me, I think by not cooking our meal we jinxed ourselves into not having a call.”
While overall as professionals the folks working at Pitco Fire are happy no families had their Thanksgivings ruined. The firefighters are personally disappointed that the one year they could have cooked a meal they could actually have sat down to enjoy they missed. Missing meals is always part of public safety but 20/20 hindsight never makes it easy.
Firefighters said next year they will try something else, but would not elaborate due to fear of jinxing themselves.
