Detroit Police Union Reveals ED-209 Project

The Detroit Police seem to have felt that the movie Robocop was a blue print for real life future policing techniques.  Police union members are claiming that the police department has spent over $100 million to develop a real life working ED-209 police robot.

Real life ED-209

Detroit Police union whistle blowers revealed today the city is testing real life ED-209 units. ED-209 stands for Enforcement Droid, model 209.

The idea of ED-209 originally came from the 1980s move “Robocop”. While the movie does not list a date the assumed date is sometime between 2010 and 2020. Ironically Robocop is about a bankrupt city of Detroit turing to robots to fight out of control crime rates.

An Anonymus officer working out of the central district said this about the project. “The city is already bankrupt and here they are wasting money on sci-fi junk.”

Police officials don’t see it as a wate of money.

A leaked memo states “Sometime you have to spend money to make money”. Later the memo outlines how the GM Corporation will be building the ED-209 units in detroit.

One high ranking police source willing to speak off the record told us. “Ed-209 will create jobs. Building ED-209 will re-open recently closed manufacturing plants. It will get skilled labors back to work building things.”

The police union does not see it this way. Detroit union members feel that once the ED-209 project is fully operational all human police will be taken off the job. “Why pay a person to be a cop, when you can put a robot on every street. No breaks, no overtime, no sick days. Just plug them into a street lamp to recharge the battery.”

Police sources say that is not true. They claim they will still need to keep about 200 human cops on the pay roll. The proto type ED-209 has not been good at handeling barking dog calls, nor has it been able to issue parking tickets.

“We will still need humans for the ‘quality of life issues’, ED-209 units will be all about crime suppression”. The Detroit Police would not elaborate on what was ment by “crime suppression”.

Officials from GM see it differently.  In a internal email obtained by us GM states. “The ED-209 project will end police abuses. ED-209 will be programed to be unable to violate the Bill of Rights.”

When members of the ACLU were shown the email they said “we will believe it when we see it”.
