Citizen astonished that Memorial Day weekend does not give him right to get drunk and be an obnoxious neighbor

Police were called to Chet Pyany home last night for noise complaint. Mr. Pyany was out on his deck with friends creating an excessive amount of noise after 10pm. Neighbors eventually called police who responded and schooled Chet on the meaning of Memorial Day.

Memorial Day is about more than grilling out

Neighbor, Pat Jones, tells CallTheCops he went to talk to Pyany about the noise. “I have a 6 month old, who still has not learned to sleep though the night. About 9pm him and his buddies are out on the deck having a late night grill out. They had on loud music and were talking even louder. At first I was annoyed but let it slide. Then by 9:45 they were getting louder and woke the baby up.”

Mr. Jones says after almost 20 minutes of trying to clam his baby down he went to talk to 24-year-old Pyany. “I told him that I realized it is a holiday weekend, but he woke up my baby and we could not get the baby to stop crying. I asked nicely for him to quite down a bit. He told me to ‘Fuck off, it is my right as an American to get drunk and grill on a holiday weekend’. So I went home and called the police.”

Officer Nate VanHandel, a veteran Marine who did two tours in Iraq, responded to the call. “I arrived and he said the same thing, it was their right to be drunk on loud on the holiday. So I asked what the holiday was all about. The little punk had no clue. Then I said Memorial Day means to memorialize the people who gave their lives for our freedoms. His friends all got it, they put their beers down and said sorry for being drunken jerks.”

Apparently the education fell on def eats with Chet. According to Officer VanHandel Chet became belligerent with the officer. “He started to yell about he knows his rights and how I am over stepping my authority. He also went on a tirade about his neighbors and their stupid baby. When all of a sudden one of his buddy’s cold cocks him. Knocked Chet right out.”

Apparently this unidentified friend was an infantryman in the Army and also served tours in both Afghanistan and Iraq. Officer VanHandel tells us he figured the problem had been taken care of. The noise was gone and the nosiest person was not going quite for some time.

“I thanked the Army guy for his service and for saving me some paperwork. The neighbors were happy, and I think Chet learned more from having a buddy kick his ass than any ticket would teach him. Problem solved… right?”
