Loud mouth Passenger stunned to find out driver is wanted bank robber

Every police officer working traffic at some point is asked “Why are you harassing me when you should be out catching murders and bank robbers”. That is exactly what happened today when Officer Hanna stop a vehicle. Turns out the driver was a bank robber.

Felony Stop

A Felony Traffic Stop

The traffic stop was for a speeding violation, 46MPH in a 30MPH zone. As officer Hanna describes it the stop started off about as routine as a speeding stop can be.

“I walked up and introduced my self to the driver. Told him the reason for the traffic stop and told him I needed his driver license. As he handed the DL over I asked if he knew how fast he was going, then also asked if he knew the speed limit.”

According to officer Hanna the driver, identified as Neil McCauley, acknowledged his speed. McCauley added that he assumed the limit was 40MPH. The driver then asked if he could get a warning as he has a clean record.

“I told that McCauley dude, I always write a ticket for people doing 15MPH over the limit. But I said seeing how he was so cooperative I would write it as if he was only doing nine over, save him money and points.”

That was when the passenger, later identified as Eady Brenneman, got upset. Officer Hanna tells us she never crossed the line to disrespect but she was very vocal.

To paraphrase her…”Why are you wasting your time on good people like us. There are murders, rapist, bank robbers, and even cop killers out there. Are we honestly that evil just for driving a tad over the arbitrary low speed limit.”

Apparently before the officer could respond the driver, McCauley, told his passenger to shut up.

Officer Hanna then returned to his squad car so he could run the information and generate his citation. Within seconds of inputting McCauley’s name the computer alerted about an active felony warrant. It seems that McCauley was wanted for multiple robberies on banks and armored cars. Some of the robberies included killings so he was also a suspected murder.

Minutes later back-up officers arrived on scene to initiate a felony traffic stop. When she was called out of the car, the passenger went absolutely ape shit. She refused to comply with commands and charged officers, resulting in her being hit with a TASER.

Later when the Brenneman was under control officers showed her the warrant info on McCauley. She was stunned to find out yes, pulling over a speeder did result in catching a “real criminal”.
