Startling discover made when researching validity of phrase “those who can do those who can’t teach”

The Journal of Criminal Justice Instructions (JCJI) is publishing a study looking into the old saying “those who can do, those who can’t teach”. A research team lead by Dr. Magister from NYU are reporting a startling discovery.

Dr. Magister explains that they conducted a review of people in various policing roles. They looked at the work history, complaints, employee reviews, continuing education and then also conducted a survey of the research sample.

The sample included equal numbers of patrol officers, department administrators, and academy instructors.

In the end the research was deemed inconclusive. Some academy instructors were very capable officers but some also seemed to be in that role just to get them off the street.

Interestingly the reachers came to an unexpected conclusion. “Those who are too incompetent to teach, get desk jobs”.

Dr. Magister explains his new theory. “It seems that there are a lot of officers out there who somehow make probation, but no one wants to work with. But no one also wants them to teach the new recruits, fearing how badly they would train the newbies. As such these people get promotions to desk jobs.”

The study does not specifically mention it but it alludes to fact that once someone is at a desk job they seem to rise in the ranks. Dr. Magister explains that his next research study will look at the promotion of incompetent people.

“In our sample I saw it more times than what could be a coincidence. People who failed at low level jobs given a higher ranking job to keep them from causing troubles. But in that new job they also have issues, so they get promoted again to a role that is more administrative. Then once they hit an administrative role they become eligible for more promotions based solely on a resume of going up the ranks.”

Dr. Magister has would not discuss more about his next study. He said if he gave out to much info it could effect the results.
