Criminal justice student upset he was arrested, “cops don’t arrest one of their own”

Nineteen year old Colin Mauren, is upset that officers from the Peenbrook Police Department arrested him over night. The sophomore, Criminal Justice major at Peenbrook college feels the cops did not live up to “The code of the blue line”.

Underage drinking

Should cops Arrest a CJ major for Underage Drinking?

Mauren was picked up for underage drinking. But Mauren thinks that the cops should have given him a pass on this minor violation.

“Last year in my Intro to CJ class, professor Danko talked about how cops never cross what is called the thin blue line. This past semester I was in a class called The Police Function with Dr. Stansfield and he talked about cops never busting other cops.”

According to the arrest report officers observed Mauren kneeling down, vomiting on a sidewalk. There were two other people with him, but upon seeing the squad car these unknown other people ran off. The officers approached Mauren to check his welfare.

The report details that Mauren told officer he was OK and he was fine to go home. When officers asked how much Mauren had to drink his answer was.

“That does not matter I am one of you. We all know you have to let me go, so why don’t you let me walk home so you can get back on patrol faster.”

Smelling the odor of intoxicants on his breath, hearing his slurred speech and the fact he has been vomiting the officer made the determination Mauren had been drinking. Because he was under age the officer made the underage drinking arrest. During the arrest Mauren protested his arrest.

“You can’t arrest me. This is crossing the blue line. Come on guys there is a code, cops don’t bust cops, especially for minor chicken shit stuff like underage drinking.”

At one point during transport to the PD Mauren piped up that the officers had made a second mistake in arresting him.

“Hey I know my rights. You put these Handcuffs on me and put me in the squad car. But you NEVER read the Miranda Warning. I know you have to read that to people immediately after arrest, before you put them in the car. I am not dumb about how the law works I am a seond year CJ student.”

The police department was not willing to comment on the arrest.

Mauren told us how furious he is. He feels violated, and that the criminal justice system has failed him. He has already filled out a department complaint form. But Mauren does not feel complaining to the chief will be enough.

“I am going to contact my state representative. As CJ student I deserve the special treatment reserved for members of the Law Enforcement family. Obviously these cops don’t know the rules or something. Maybe the chief is complacent with them breaking the rules.”

The staff at CallTheCops thought to correct this young man… But ultimately we decided as journalist it is our job to simply report what we see, and not interfere.
