Midwestern cops respond to the south to help during “catastrophic” winter weather

For police officers in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan getting a few inches of snow is considered a dusting. For people in Georgia, along with North and South Carolina a few inches of snow is alarming. Add in some ice and things become catastrophic.

After being overwhelmed by snow and ice a few weeks ago Southern police were not going to taken any chances when a second storm hit this week. Many departments in the south call for mutual aid from the north.

Public Information Officer Lt. MacReady had this to say about brining in a bunch of Yankees.

“Our brothers and sisters up north have access to equipment we don’t. They have these chain things that go over tires to help drive in snow and ice. Jackets and other clothing options that keep you truly warm in these temperatures are standard issue for them. These people work in this shit for months at a time, our guys are stressed just thinking about dealing with it for a few days.”

Wisconsin police officer Vance Norris feels that the snow and ice are not a big deal.

“It might be snowing here but wow is ever warm outside. The temperature is like 20 degrees. Back home in Hayward it was -15. I was in just a long sleeve uniform shirt, vest and an Under Armor turtleneck. I was actually getting hot working outside… yet all the local guys were shivering cold in their jackets. Guess that might be why they called us”

Officers from Minnesota and Michigan echoed that same sentiment. George Bennings an officer from Nevis, MN added this.

“Our brothers and sisters needed some help so we helped. They deal with stuff like hurricanes on a regular basis, we in the upper Midwest deal with blizzards. I am sure if a hurricane were coming in off the great lakes cops from the south would come help us.”

Officers are expected to remain helping out in the Sothern states till sometime late on Friday.
