For years many of the major Japanese car manufactures have been trying to get into the lucrative police squad car market. Rumor has it that Toyota is close to announcing their new prototype police squad.

The Toyota police squad car
Police officers love the Crown Vic. Sgt. Bill DeSoto has been in police work for over 15 years and has never driven anything but a Crown Vic. He has tried Chevy and Dodge squad cars but they never “feel” right to him. Even the new Taurus just is not the same.
“The fleet at my agency is getting older and our Police Interceptors are starting to show their age. In a few short years we will not have any more serviceable units. When that day comes I have no clue what I will do, maybe that will be the sign it is time to retire.”
Sgt. DeSoto’s words are echoed all across the national at police departments.
According to a source inside Toyota, they saw this as an opportunity to sneak into the policing market. If they could put out a car that had the look and feel of a Crown Vic, they could win the hearts of a generation of cops.
Sgt. DeSoto agrees. We showed him the concept drawings and prototype photos. “I will not know till I drive it. But based on these photos, I bet it will work.”
The Toyota Keisatsu has a body style that looks like a Crown Vic. The interior feels like a Crown Vic. But the technology is all Toyota. The Keisatsu will have a nice big V8 engine under the hood, but it will be a hybrid synergy drive engine also. Our source did not have all the vehicle specs but promised power and speed, yet still 40-50MPG. In addition on board computers that will run radio, and lighting systems in the most energy efficient ways.
“This car will make both officers and administrators happy. The officers will love that they get something close to their favorite car back. The administrators will love it because they get low fuel costs and better technology integrations.”
Our source at Toyota does not have pricing details at this time. He did say that the dream was to get it to market at a cost lower than other options currently for sale.
