Wife Divorces Husband of 33 Years After Discovering He Secretly Worked as a Firefighter

Lt. Stanley Singer, a decorated veteran of the Colfax Heights Fire District, was recently celebrated after serving his community for over 30 years in a gala, retirement ceremony for the ages. However, not everyone was rejoicing over Singer’s heroic service. Absent from Stanley’s side was his wife, Victoria Singer-Brown, who refused to attend.

“My wife could not be here today”, Stanley said wiping away the tears from his eyes. “Vicky was always afraid that I could get hurt or killed being a firefighter, so I made a promise to her on our wedding night that I would quit the fire service. I told her that I would take a job selling aluminum siding.”

For years, a handful of townsfolk, and local firefighters aided Stanley in maintaining the ruse to fool his wife. “Fooling Vicky and hiding Stan wasn’t always an easy task”, said Peter Papadakis, Singer’s Engineer and longtime friend. “There was one time when we responded to a house fire right across the street from the Lieutenant’s house! I did my best to position my engine to block his wife’s view so she wouldn’t notice Stan cutting a ventilation hole up on the neighbors roof.”

The plan to fool the soon-to-be ex-Mrs. Singer had worked out a little too well, as Victoria was completely caught off guard when her husband finally came clean about being a firefighter.

“I figured after all these years that when I finally came clean (sic) that she would be proud of me and my service to my community. I had no idea that she would be so angry and leave me.”

For nearly three decades, she assumed that Stanley was out of town selling aluminum siding every other day. A friend close to Victoria Singer-Brown stated that she had felt betrayed by her husband’s deception, and complete disregard for his own safety. Victoria could not be reached for comment.
