Hipster traffic engineer uses traffic circles because they are ironic

It seems every road improvement project today includes installing a traffic circle, or as some call them a roundabout, at any major intersection. Turns out this is due to the “hipster” movement.

A typical Traffic Circle

Hipsters are easy to spot with the lumberjack beards, geeky thick glasses, and generally looking like they might be homeless. They often dress and act in ways to be “ironic”. Middle class, college education, but with this look that is carefully crafted to appear as if they are penniless person who does not actually care about how they look.

This ironic view of life has also been found to effect all the driving public. As one traffic engineer Jared Gosling told us. “How ironic is it that when someone wants to turn left, we make them go right first. Then think about this, want to go straight, nope you have to turn right.”

Hipster culture is also known for shunning what is “cool”. If something from the hipster culture goes mainstream the hipsters are quick to point out they did it before it was cool.

When asked about traffic circles becoming a mainstream traffic engineering staple Gosling took a drink from his Pabst Blue Ribbon beer and said. “I was doing traffic circles before they were cool.”

Gosling the gives a smile and explains how he is doing more and more designees with Multi-Leg Intersection. Having five or more directions of travel meet at one point is his new ironic theory. “Most intersections only have four routes of travel meet, so I plan to add extra directions people can go.”
