Fire fighters get into fight after lottery win

The winners are all from South Carolina, a state that allows lottery winners to keep their identity secret. We were tipped off by an confidential source within the fire department.

According to our source the winners opted for the lump sum payout, $233 Million after taxes. This is where the first issue came up. Three people had chipped in to buy lottery tickets, 233 does not divide by three well.

The three people were a pair of veteran firefighters and a rookie still on probation. The two older firefighters decided they would each take $78 million and leave the rookie $77 million. Obviously the rookie was irate he was shorted a million dollars. But he kept his irritation private to protect their identities.

All three agreed to keep a low profile for a few months till they all have lawyers and investment plans set up. They went to work for each of their shifts and never let on they won.

It took about three months for the second issue to pop up. Firefighter Greg Parker rolled into work on day in a BMW. Then Chance Buckman came the next week in a Mercedes. Finally the rookie, Joe Horn, showed up in a Porsche.

Jack Harris got a sneaking suspicion and started to grill the rookie about all these new cars. The rookie still irate about being shorted a million bucks told Harris about the lottery win. Problem is Harris typically is part of this lottery pool. But he was out sick the day they winning ticket was purchased. Meaning he did not chip in, so the group did not cut him in on the winnings.

Our source tells us Harris stormed into the dayroom and punched FF Parker. Then started to yell about how they screwed him. He said they could have come by his house to get the money or asked him to chip in a few days later.

Apparently the three winners just shrugged and said “maybe it was not meant to be for him”.

Harris then stormed into the chief’s office to tell him about the lottery win. The chief was furious to learn they are buying lottery tickets on duty time.

“We get enough flack from the public that we are at the grocery story buying food to eat on shift. Now these clowns are gambling also! Christ I can’t wait for the complaints about how we are wasting tax dollar come in on this one.”

For the time being FF Harris has been reassigned to a new station house. The three winners are continuing to work shift, but all report quitting any side jobs.
