EMS director bans use of funny TeeSpring shirts when on calls

The village of Peengrits runs a paid on call EMS service. This cash strapped service does not provide any uniforms for the EMTs. As such most EMTs order various EMS related t-shirts to wear when responding to calls. But after complainants about the messages on some shirts a new policy will force all EMTs to only wear sanctioned shirts.

EMS Shirts with funny slogans

EMS director Richard Glava put out a memo banning non-sanctioned shirts immediately. The memo goes on to state the he has received multiple complaints about messages on shirts.

“I warned them all in the past to think about what it is they put on when on-call. But I guess that warning fell on def ears. A crew responded to the Mayor’s house. The Mayor’s nine-year-old son commented on the slogan on two of the EMT’s shirts. His wife then saw the slogan, and before the ambulance was in route to the hospital I was getting called at home.”

The shirt in question was from a popular EMS Facebook page. The slogan reads “Band-Aid Distribution and Application Specialists” or BAD ASS. Other shirts that have garnered questions in the past included slogans like “Hello I am with EMS, What stupid thing did you today?”, “Once the Ambulance Doors close you belong to me”, “Drive safe or I get to see you naked” and “EMTs are paid to save your ass NOT kiss it”.

The teespring movement has been popular on many public safety related Facebook pages such as Nocturnal Medics, Would You like Oxygen With That, Bitch With a Badge, 911: YCMTSU, Funny Emergency Calls and too many others to mention in this story. Each page seems to try to one-up the other on humor and vulgarity in their t-shirts. Which of course make them hot selling items.

“I understand why my people like these shirts. To be honest I have many of them also. But I know enough not to wear them on calls.”

Peengrits EMT Mike Madry understands the issue but feels the new rule is not fully fair. “They don’t give us shirts. We have to buy shirts from this local printer dude. Very generic EMS shirts. If I am going to spend money out of my pocket I want to buy something I want to actually have on. If Chief Glava wants me in a generic shirt he better put it in the budget to buy me a few.”
